a journey of discovery of the people of the Middle East

October 7th and the subsequent tragedy in Gaza exposed the inconsistencies in Western paradigms regarding the people of the Middle East. Who are these people and what are their real social and identity characteristics? What are the reasons that lead the West to caricature these people as terror for the world?

Younis Project has become my life, my mission.

Hi, my name is Vivian. I always heard that I was born to be a journalist and, during the beginning of my professional life, I was a TV journalist. Due to a personal tragedy, my professional life changed direction. The genocide in Gaza found me as I searched, for more than 6 years, for a journalistic project that would capture my heart to return to the profession that I have always loved. There is a lot to talk about people in the Middle East, people whose realities are stifled by Western political and economic interests. There is a lot to talk about the truth! And I took this mission as mine.

the journey so far

We are just at the beginning of our journey, but the journey so far has already brought us many stories to tell! And there’s much more to come!

15 countries,
3 seasons

Younis Project is an audiovisual project that comprises the production of a webdoc and documentary, both presented in three seasons, starting with the Arab Uprising, taking into account the relational nature of the project’s argument with the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Here , we break down the roadmap for season 1’s journey.

The division of seasons was designed to converge themes with minimally shared historical, anthropological, cultural, political and social aspects, with the aim of stitching together a macro-narrative even though each country in the region has several particular and complex aspects, typical of such ancient civilizations.

We are currently in the final stages of pre-production, specifically looking for financing for the project. Part of it will be paid for by sponsors and partners, part of it will be funded by crowdfunding. If you can, collaborate with the project!

The Levant remains a crossroads of civilizations, serving as a meeting point between the Arabian Peninsula, the Mediterranean and the Mesopotamian World. Our journey will pass through Egypt, Palestine (Gaza and West Bank), Lebanon, Jordan and Syria.

season 2

Arabian Peninsula countries

The people of this region are characterized by a rich Bedouin heritage, strong Islamic culture and deep traditions of hospitality. Social practices reflect a balance between modernity and ancestral traditions, with significant cultural diversity in dialects, cuisine and customs. This season, we will visit the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Qatar.

season 3

Near East countries

This region presents a social formation characterized by the intersection of ancient cultural legacies and predominant Islamic influences. The cradle of the greatest empires of the ancient world, the Ottoman, the various Mesopotamian and Persian empires, with a strong Arab presence and the rich tradition of Islamic Shiism. This season, we will visit Turkey, Iraq, Kuwait and Iran.

they share the mission

Producing a documentary independently is a complex task. This is especially true when the main goal is to promote justice for an ethnic group that is severely oppressed around the world at this time. That is why we value the companies that have agreed to be part of our mission.
